Freedom From Worry

                  “But forget all that—
it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.
For I am about to do something new.
See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”
Isaiah 43:18-19 NLT

Isaiah 43:18-19 NLT

Have you ever missed something that was right in front of you? I have! One night at dinner with some friends, I was sure I lost my sunglasses for the 400th time this week (give or take a few). I tried to look for them without anyone noticing because if I’m honest, momentarily misplacing things is a little more “on brand” for me than I’d like to admit.

I stealthily looked all over the table, the seats, checked the floor, nothing. By the time one of my friends returned to the table, I was ready to give up my charade and ask for the keys to go search vehicles. Before I could make my desperate request, she took one look at me and said: “Your shades are falling to the back of your head, sis.” Because of course, they were.

That story is so silly but I don’t think it’s very different to how we often relate to what God is doing in our lives.

When we can’t see or feel what He’s doing in a situation we may assume He’s not in it. I’ve got great news for you, dear one. That. Is. NOT. True.

Isaiah 43:18-19 has been really encouraging me on this subject lately. The phrase in it that caught my ear when I heard it a few weeks ago was “Do you not see it?” God is telling Israel that He is going to do something new. In fact, He’s already started doing it and they haven’t noticed! The Lord invites them to see that He’s already providing and making a way to freedom for them even though when He says this, they are still prisoners in Babylon.

Can you imagine?

I believe our loving Father is issuing the same invitation today. I believe He calls us to freedom even when to look around, our relationships, work or even own hearts still feel stuck. If you’re crying out to God right now to change your circumstances, I wonder if He isn’t saying back to you “See I have already begun! Do you not see it?” Or I wonder if you’re like me, who needed a dear sister to point out the sunglasses falling off of my head.

Others may easily notice what we can’t see for the life of us. Don’t stop praying and don’t stop leaning into community, they’re exactly the tools you need for a changed perspective.

I hope this reality frees you up from worry and anxiety today. Don’t lose heart staring at your problems and concerns.

I know it’s hard to see but The Lord is making a pathway through your wilderness and creating rivers in your deserts.

Even if you can see it yet. Look up, child.

Let’s Pray…

Heavenly Father, thank you for the sweet invitation to freedom. No longer will I let worry and anxiety rule my thoughts and life. Open my eyes to see how you are moving in my current circumstance, and send a sister my way to help me with a new perspective. I know you are moving, for YOU are good. In moments when I am weak, let I never forget how strong YOU are. For worry is nothing compared to the love you have for me.

Amen.
